THE POINT MUSIC NEWS: ‘GONE’ SINGLE REVIEW
Song: ‘Gone’ by Lucy Korts
“Brisbane indie-pop songstress, Lucy Korts is fast becoming known for her intense vulnerability, enchanting vocals and empowering aura, and with her latest single, ‘Gone’ shows a fearless approach to songwriting paired with powerful, emotionally-ripe deliveries.
Moody, dark, and synth-drenched pop, ‘Gone’ puts the musical weight on your chest, with a deep heartbeat kick, and reversing synth strings, but over the low rumble of bass, there is a breath, with Lucy’s vocals shifting from heartbreak, to resolution and light. It’s powerful, and releasing, and hits right in the feels.
With the force of an intense cathartic release, the bridge explodes in a crescendo of dramatic synths as Lucy’s unshrinking vocals ignite a powerful lyrical hook. As the song continues to build with unyielding emotional strength, the impact of Lucy’s grief hits hard with one last painful realisation.
There are several nods to different electronic music generations from the more recent ASMR-based synth pop, to the dark indie-synth vibes (a la Imogen Heap), and a cheeky 80s nod as well, all wrapped up in a highly polished production.
Instilled with the strength of a singer and the heart of a songwriter, Lucy Korts debuted in 2017, sharing the stage with the likes of Alex Lahey, The Paper Kites & The Temper Trap at the Queensland Flower Festival, garnering well-deserved recognition from her stirring performances and enthralling vocal prowess.
Since then, Lucy Korts has continued evolving her sound, using electro-pop flavours to match her unflinching lyrical instincts, releasing multiple singles, including ‘Crocodiles Cry’, ‘Not Your Type’ and last year’s ‘Everyone’.
Known for connecting with audiences through the vulnerability she brings to her songwriting, Lucy Korts delivers her gentle strength to ‘Gone’, written about the gut-wrenching pain of being hurt by someone, as she explains:
“'Gone' is a feeling like the one in your chest when your heart is breaking. It's an anthem for anybody who has been hurt by somebody in a way words can't show, bringing a strong and equally as delicate pop beat that delivers honesty to the feelings that come with hurt.”

INTERVIEW - AMNPLIFY AUSTRALIA
Interview for ‘Crocodiles Cry’ single release by Lucy Korts
Have you always wanted to be a musician? When did you get the song writing bug?
Absolutely not. Although my love for music was constant – stepping into the music industry was accidental. It started with a spontaneous decision four years ago to take ‘singing in the shower’ to the stage of an open mic night. From that day onwards, I was an addict for sharing whatever I could manage to write with whoever was willing to listen.
How would you describe your sound? Why do you think people resonate with your music?
I sing about all of the things that people think about but are too afraid to say out loud, and that’s why it’s easy for my listeners to connect with what I write. I like to think that my sound is equal parts soft as it is strong and that I can touch people through my vulnerability.
Which artist’s music and/or performance, past or present, inspires you today?
I am constantly inspired by Michael Rosenberg (Passenger). When I saw Mike live for the first time I was taken back by the brutal (and beautiful) honesty in his performance. He was a huge inspiration in teaching me the power of vulnerability.
Your new single ‘Crocodiles Cry’ was just released. Describe its origin and evolution.
The song was inspired by frustration and grown out of strength. At first the only real message was anger but it lyrically grew into something a little more empowering than just that. I wanted to create something that would make people feel strong enough to stand up for themselves – And so I wrote ‘Crocodiles Cry’.
What are you looking forward to, and what can the fans expect next?
They can expect me to never stop writing and sharing the words and melodies that I string together. My biggest goal as an artist is to make people feel something when they listen to my music – So they can expect to feel sad, happy, angry, joyful and everything in between.
If you could perform with any music artist, Alive or Dead, who would you choose? And why?
Stu Larsen (He’s very alive). It’s a little bit of a childhood dream really. He was one of my strongest influences in songwriting. He comes from the same little town as me and I thought that if he could make it so big, maybe I had a chance.
What is the best thing about performing to a live audience? What’s been the career highlight so far?
Letting somebody know that they’re not alone in what they’re feeling. As artists, we say a lot of things through our music and performances that normal words can’t say. When I see somebody in the audience instantly connect to my writing and I can feel how much it has touched them, that is the best part.
